The Pee Dee Indian Tribe has the strong desire to make the Tribe Self Supporting.  We can do this by working together to bring about changes to our communities.  We can have many opportunities if the Indian people will support the Tribe.

The Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina (formerly known as the Pee Dee Indian Tribal Association) is the Original Pee Dee Indian Tribe that was chartered on November 29, 1976.  But it now has a completely new Tribal Administration.  None of the former Tribal leaders are with the Tribe anymore.  The Tribe has been brought back to a position of respect by all of the State agencies and Indian Tribal Leaders, both in the State of South Carolina and across the United States.  This is from the hard and honest work of the current Tribal Council and Tribal Members that have put their heart and soul into rebuilding this Tribe after what happened a few years ago.

From the forming of this Tribe in 1976 until the 90's there was only one Pee Dee Indian Tribe.  Indians from other areas of South Carolina formed Tribes, Bands, and Groups with the identity as Pee Dee Indians.  I believe these folks are descendants from the historical Pee Dee Indians, which lived along the Pee Dee Rivers and other areas of South Carolina.

As of now, there is One Recognized Pee Dee Indian Tribe, and One recognized Pee Dee Indian Nation Group.  Each Tribe, Nation, Band and Group has their own history and when you read the history of any of these you will find that our history and Tribal customs, culture and traditions are similar to the other Pee Dee Indians.

The Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina is made up from the Original family surnames that were living in Marlboro and Marion counties after the Civil War of 1861-1865.  The Tribe is not formed from one ancestor, but from many ancestors.  This is the major difference between the Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina and the other Pee Dee Indians.
