THE 2010 CENSUS
Is here as of April 01, 2010 and if you have not got a census
form in the mail, then you will get one. "Stop" Please do not throw it "Away" It is very important that you complete the form
and return it. Everyone complains that there is no help for the Indians, Well I ask this Question, How can the Government
provide help for Indians in Marlboro and Dillon Counties when there is no Indians being counted on the Census records? This
is a "FACT" There were only 264 Indians counted in Dillon County and only 595 in Marlboro County on the 2000 Census Count
That was less than a thousand Indians in both counties. I do not know why Indians will not identify themselves as Indians,
but there is a problem in that area. Another sad fact is that there was only a total of 201 Indians in the nine schools in
Marlboro County in 2008 and also only 466 Indians registered to Vote in Marlboro County. This was a decrease in the number
due to people not voting to keep their card upto date.
There is 400 Billion Dollars to be spent over the next 10 years
and some of this money will come to marlboro county to serve the Indian people if there are any here? The
only way they will know is from the Census Count. No one will every see your census data for 72 years from now( that will
be 2082) so only someone searching for you 72 years from now will know you are Indian. I am proud to be Indian and I am glad
that at last the Federal Government wants to count me as an Indian after so many years of being left out.
I am now pleading to you that is reading this, please spread
the word about the 2010 census to all the Indian people you know.
The form is not complicated and only has ten question to answer.
The Question on Race is really critical, Please state that you are an American Indian(not Native American) and your tribe
is the Pee Dee Indian Tribe of SC.( it is ok to write out of the blocks if you have to ) I was told by a Census Rep that it
would be ok to do that.
If you are not a member of the Pee Dee Indian Tribe of SC, but
you are eligible to become a member, then state that you belong to the Pee Dee Indian Tribe.
This Census Count of the Indians is making changes in who should
be Head of Household. The person who is Indian must be listed as Head of Household, even if it is the Female. The household
will not be counted as an Indian Household if this is not done.
This is the one time that all of those folks who have not listed
their Race as Indian can make up for that oversight by being counted as an Indian on the Census for 2010.
In Closing I must remind you that if you do not return your
form, then a census worker will come to your door with another form. There is no law that says you must complete the census
form, but the number of people in our county is how the Government determines how many Representives and Senators we have.
So it is important to complete the census form. Only you and those who aid you will know what information you submitted.
