WHO IS WHO (Which Pee Dee Indian Tribe )

  This Statement is being posted on our site because some folks don't understand that the Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina is the Truly Recognized Pee Dee Indian Tribe of Marlboro, Dillon and Marion Counties as per our State Charter dated November 29, 1976. The Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina and the Marlboro, Darlington, Chesterfield Pee Dee Indians, ( Not Recognized as an Indian Tribe) are connected in no way.

The Pee Dee Indian Nation of Upper SC 

Located in Dillon County is also recognized as an Indian tribe by the state of South Carolina. The Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina has a working relationship with this tribe, but our tribal governments are diffent.

It is very important that the public and an other Indian agencies know which tribe is which.

 

The trading post being operated in McColl, SC is not connected to the Pee Dee Indian Tribe of SC in anyway.

 

We as a tribal Council ask that the other Group do not just use the word "Pee Dee Indian Tribe" please use all of your chartered name in the posting of flyers or other items of information. The Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina will have no problem if the correct tribal identity is used to identify either tribe.
