Chief Caulder & Member Johnny Bailey

Pee Dee Indian Tribe owns about three acres of land off Highway #38 going towards Hamlet, NC. We are making plans to build a Tribal Administration Office and Tribal Assembly area. There will be a 40'x 60' foot building that will provide the space that is needed for the tribe to hold tribal meetings and operate from. This land has real potential for future development by the tribe.  We Thank Tribal Council Member Pete Parr for the donation of this land to the Tribe.

We have a tribal member that has pledged almost all of the building materials that we will need to build our Center. We will still have a lot of other expenses related to getting the center completed. All donations will be appreciated to help with our Tribal Center. The Pee Dee Indians need a place that is their own. When the center  is finished the State of South Carolina will put us a Road side sign out on highway 38 that will read "Pee Dee Indian Tribal Grounds" along with an arrow pointing to our land. This will bring more awareness of our tribe to people that travel highway 38.

The distance from McColl to the land is about fifteen miles, but it is all we have and we need to make use of the land.  Members without transportation will be provided with a way to make the tribal meetings. There is still a lot of land to be cleared before we can build an Arena for our Pow Wows that will be held on our own land.

If anyone wishes to visit your land, then go up highway 38 towards Hamlet, NC. After you cross Highway 79 look for Longer Sand Road on your right. Turn right and drive straight ahead, you will see the # 134 (this # is not up at this posting, but will be up in a few days) Walk over the land and make a prayer to the Great Creator and ask him to help us get a place we can call our own.

We have a building committee set up so anyone who would like to donate their time or their specialities or materials or money, please contact:

Tribal Building Update:

As of this date: March 25, 09, The Plans for the Tribal Operational Center is still moving forward. We have a complete set of Building Blue Prints for our 40'x 60' building. The Concrete Pad Fund needs $ 5,000.00 to pay for the concrete and all the Electrical & Plumbing that will have to be done before any walls can be erected. I know that there is someone reading this that can donate $ 5,000,00 to the Tribe and never miss it. Maybe your Heart will let you help us

ANOTHER MILESTONE HAS BEEN MET
With a lot of help from a very few select members there has been a 16'x 24' Building built on our tribal ground. This building has costed over $ 1,000.00 out of the pocket to complete. Four tribal members has covered this expense, but it sure would be nice if some other members would kick in at least $ 25.00. The building will save the tribe $ 60.00 per month from the fee for a storage room, it will also free the up the $ 60.00 that the Chief is paying to store some Computers that belong to the tribe.

Other Needs On the Tribal Land & Trailer
1. We need to have a Phone with DLS capabilties put in, this will cost about $ 140-200. AT&T does not have a signal up there.
2. We need about 10 Gallons of paint to paint the building.
3. We need to have some dirt hauled in to fill in the low places and plant some Rye Grass to prevent run off.
4. We need to remove all the trees down to the new building. this is not a hard job, just a little digging and the tree will come up.
5. We are also clearing out the vines and undergrowth down on the South end of our land.

6. NOTE: If you dig up a tree, please do not leave it laying on the ground for someone else to put it on the burn pile. Cut the tree in about 6-10 foot pieces and drag them out to the burn pile.
7. We have not even begun to work on the inside of our trailer house. there is a lot to do there.

Land Update

The donated trailer has been moved onto our Tribal Land.  The septic tank, sewer lines, water lines, and power lines have been completed.  The trailer has been registered and we are in the process of getting the underpinning completed.

The Tribal members must start coming up to the land and helping more with the clearing of more land to make our Home nice for the visitors to see.  People will be more willing to make donations to the tribe, when they see that we are really doing all we can to improve our lives.

The desire to hold our 2010 Pow Wow on our own tribal land is not going to happen this year. We still need to clear the woods for a place to set up our tribal Pow Wow. Come on Members, lets do better this year than we did last year. Many pine trees have been dug up, but many more are still waiting for you. All it will take to complete the much needed work is for you to have a desire to make our tribal ground something that people will want to visit.

I want to create an area with Round Houses to show how our people lived. The public will pay to visit such site. We may even be able to build some Cabins that can be used as a camping area.
If you are really interested, than attend the meetings and lets do it.

History Being Made " May 30, 2009 "
tribalpicturestriballand016.jpg
First Tribal Meeting Held On Pee Dee Land since 1790's.

I challenge each Tribal member to go up and walk over our land, open your heart and let your mind drift back in time to when our Ancestors walked on this very ground.  You will feel something you have never felt before.  You are walking on the First Land to be owned by the Pee Dee Indian Tribe since the late 1790's.  That is pride of Ownership you feel.

Our Ancestors did not claim ownership of the land they lived on, but today we must have a deed to prove ownership of our land.  We also must carry a Tribal Card to prove we belong to an Indian Tribe.  Don't forget we must also prove we are Indians.  Things really have changed in the past 509 years for the Pee Dee Indians.

Again we still need help:
Materials
Labor
Money
Volunteers
Equipment

!!!!!  THANK YOU !!!!!
